Nantes–Saint-Nazaire Estuary

The Estuaire Nantes <> Saint-Nazaire art trail invites you to explore the Loire estuary in a different way. Spread over twelve communes, some thirty contemporary works of art line the river from Nantes to Saint-Nazaire, guiding visitors to singular, sometimes little-known sites, always revealing the territory.

Each work acts as a point of entry. Sometimes set in the heart of a fragile natural landscape, sometimes facing a monumental industrial infrastructure, they reveal the contrasts of the estuary. Nature reserves, harbours, wetlands, villages, wastelands and urban quays make up a complex whole, where art becomes a common thread for understanding the mutations of the river and its banks.

Discovery is free, at your own pace. On foot, by bike, by car or by public transport, the works installed in Nantes and Saint-Nazaire allow visitors to stroll through the two cities, while taking a fresh look at their historical and contemporary heritages. Some creations, more discreet during the day, are fully revealed at nightfall, inviting visitors to explore the landscape in a different way.

From April to October, the route can also be explored from the water, with cruises along the estuary. This approach offers a complementary point of view, linking the works, the river and the great landscapes that surround it.

Access to all sites is free of charge. However, some works require special visiting conditions, or are subject to occasional closures, reminding us that this open-air museum is part of a living, constantly evolving territory.
