The Briéronne Ark

Just a few kilometers from Pornichet, the Brière marshes offer a peaceful interlude. Here, the horizon takes shape between canals, reeds and thatched cottages. Based at Port de Bréca, L'Arche Briéronne offers guided walks through this unique territory, designed to give you time to immerse yourself in the life of the marsh.

The barge tour, a traditional Brière boat, offers a gentle immersion in the water. For around 45 minutes, you glide silently between the canals, accompanied by the guide's commentary. Depending on the season, the flora and fauna are revealed, as are the customs and traditions that have shaped this living landscape. Each detour becomes an opportunity to observe, listen and understand the fragile balance of the Briéron marshes.

Another way to explore the site is by horse-drawn carriage. Drawn by a horse, it crosses the marsh paths to the slow, steady rhythm of hooves. Thatched cottages dot the route, bearing witness to an ancient art of living that continues to this day. This 45-minute tour offers a different way of discovering the Brière, between its built heritage and its open landscapes.

To extend the experience, L'Arche Briéronne offers a package combining barge and horse-drawn carriage. In an hour and a half, the discovery is complete, alternating water and land, nature and history. Guided tours are also available in English and German for groups throughout the year, by prior arrangement.
It's also possible to hire a boat to explore the marsh's signposted trails on your own. It's another way to discover the area at your own pace, following the meandering course of the Brière.
