Just a few kilometers from Pornichet, the Grande Brière marshes offer an immediate change of scenery. Here, open landscapes, canals and wet meadows create a living space, shaped for centuries by man and nature. Les Calèches Briéronnes offers two complementary ways to discover the area: by boat and by horse-drawn carriage.
The boat ride allows you to glide gently over the water, along the canals of the marsh. Accompanied by commentary, the walk invites you to observe the flora and fauna, to understand how the marsh functions and the management choices made to preserve this fragile balance. The silence, punctuated by the sounds of nature, encourages observation and attention to the landscape.
A horse-drawn carriage ride offers a different view of the area. Drawn by a horse, it follows the marsh paths and passes through the hamlets, showing thatched cottages, traditional roofs and traces of life in days gone by. The slow pace of the tour allows you to reflect on the old ways of life, the organization of the marsh and the lifestyles associated with it.
Over the course of the two routes, the themes addressed are in line with each other: development of the marsh, current management, built heritage, traditions and the close relationship between man and his environment. Each walk sheds a different but complementary light on this unique territory.
This discovery of the Brière is a natural complement to a stay in Pornichet. It offers a gentle interlude between land and water, and allows you to take the time to understand an emblematic landscape, to be experienced slowly, as the seasons go by.
