Ranrouët Castle
Built from the XIIIᵉ century onwards, Château de Ranrouët is now a vast open-air heritage site. At one time a defensive fortress, at another a seigneurial residence, it was shaped by great Breton families - Assérac, Rochefort, Rieux - whose imprint can still be seen in the architecture and organization of the site.
The visit takes place in a singular natural environment, on the edge of the Brière marshes. Here, history and nature meet. A multi-stage tour explores the different parts of the château: ramparts, towers, moat and interior spaces. The tour invites you to walk, observe, take in the sights and immerse yourself in the atmosphere of a Breton fortress, sentinel of the marshes.
The remains of the fortress can be explored freely, on your own or with the help of specially adapted media, as well as during guided tours led by our mediators. Special formats are also available for groups and school groups, facilitating an educational approach to the site.
Each year, the château hosts a temporary exhibition to enhance the discovery of the site. In 2026, a brand-new, fantasy-tinged exhibition is scheduled to open in June, offering a fresh look at the site and its imaginary world.
From spring onwards, a varied cultural program brings the site to life: family shows, theater, concerts, nocturnes, themed weekends and life-size quests. These are all opportunities to experience history in a different way, in a friendly atmosphere accessible to all.
Designed with visitors' comfort in mind, the site features a picnic area, free parking and play equipment for children. A visit to Château de Ranrouët is the perfect complement to a stay in Pornichet, offering a nature and heritage getaway just a few kilometers from the coast, in the heart of an area marked by time and the Brière landscapes.
