A Look at Breton Markets in the 1950s and 1960s

We travel back in time to the center of the square, where it all begins.

Through five living tableaux, the show brings postwar Brittany to life, from Finistère to Loire-Atlantique. Each scene opens with a narrator setting the stage for a town in the 1950s or 1960s, before giving way to the voices, stories, and sounds of a bagad. Little by little, you find yourself swept away by the soulful songs, the memories of these regions, and the energy that once animated the markets of yesteryear.

Then the tempo picks up. The accordion draws the dancers in, period costumes swirl, and the richness of Breton dances unfolds, from the lively gavotte to the more rhythmic laridé. The show becomes interactive: a game punctuates the performance, and at the end, the audience is invited to join the performers in a circle dance. It’s a simple and joyful way to celebrate together a heritage that’s still very much alive.
