Land of Salt
Located just a few minutes from the medieval town of Guérande, Terre de Sel welcomes visitors every day to the heart of the salt marshes. Here, the landscape tells an age-old story of water, wind, light and know-how handed down from generation to generation. The tour begins on foot, around the salt marshes, for a gradual immersion in this singular universe.
Accompanied by naturalist guides and salt workers, visitors discover the mysteries of salt and an ancestral craft. The workings of the salt marshes, the role of water and sun, the precise gestures of the salt worker and the fragile balance between human activity and nature are explained with clarity and passion. The rich and discreet fauna and flora of the marshes complete this sensitive reading of the landscape.
Terre de Sel offers some fifteen different tours, enabling visitors to choose the experience that suits them best. Cultural, family or themed tours cover the salt worker's trade, tastes, landscapes or biodiversity. Children are fully integrated into the discovery process, with adapted, fun tours accessible from age 3, encouraging observation and awakening the senses.
The walk is like a moment out of time, conducive to exchange and contemplation. At the end of the tour, you can extend your discovery freely in the Boutique-Expo, a warm and inviting space showcasing "Le Guérandais" coarse salt and fleur de sel, as well as a selection of quality local products.
A visit to Terre de Sel is the perfect complement to a stay in Pornichet. It gives you a better understanding of a landscape that is emblematic of the area, a chance to meet the people who bring it to life on a daily basis, and a taste of another time, punctuated by the seasons and the tides.
