When the sun is high, Pornichet slows down

What to do when it gets too hot in Pornichet ?

When temperatures rise, Pornichet shifts into a different rhythm. Mornings begin earlier to enjoy the cool air on the beach, midday slows beneath the shade of pine trees, and energy returns with the evening light. Here, heat is never an obstacle. It is simply an invitation to experience the Atlantic seaside town differently — through shade, water and gentle living.

Between pine trees and coastal breeze

Finding shade in Pornichet’s green spaces

When the hot air begins to shimmer above the sand, it is time to leave the beach behind and head for the trails.

Just a few steps from the shoreline, Cavaro Heathland opens onto a pine-lined path where temperatures instantly drop by several degrees. Walk slowly, breathe deeply and listen to the breeze moving through the branches.

A little further on, Pointe de Congrigoux extends this leafy retreat. The ground feels cooler beneath your feet, soft filtered light dances through the foliage. Here, there is no need for a watch. Sit on a bench overlooking the ocean while children enjoy the shaded playground nearby.

Closer to the town centre, Bois des Évens is one of our favourite escapes — a peaceful green haven tucked just behind the Town Hall. Beneath the pine canopy, sheltered from the sun, every step feels cooler and time naturally begins to slow down.

It is also the perfect outing for families. As you wander along the pathways, keep your eyes open and have fun spotting the sculptures discreetly hidden among the trees. A peaceful and playful walk, ideal for taking a proper break in the shade.

For lunch away from the burning sand, Bois Joli offers the perfect cooling setting beneath the trees. Spread out a picnic blanket, enjoy a few local delicacies picked up at the market, and simply savour a quiet moment surrounded by nature.

Exploring Brière for a breath of fresh air

What if the best way to escape the heat is simply to change scenery? Just a few minutes from Pornichet, The Brière Regional Natural Park offers an immediate sense of freshness. Glide by traditional flat-bottom boat through winding canals, as reeds brush softly against the hull and the humid marsh air replaces the dry heat of the coast.

It is a different rhythm, a different light. Drift quietly, watch the birds and savour the silence. Brière becomes the refreshing escape on a particularly hot summer day, always just moments away from Pornichet.

Beach, siesta, ice cream, beach

Enjoying cool moments throughout the day

In the morning, the sea is still calm and the air remains fresh. It is the perfect time to slip into the water on one of Pornichet’s three beaches, when the sand is still cool and the shoreline almost empty. The evening offers the same pleasure: the light softens, temperatures drop, and swimming feels like the perfect reward after a slower day.
